Cookie Wars!

On Sunday, June 1st, some dedicated parents in the district are hosting Cookie Wars!  Last year the cupcakes at Cupcake Wars were amazing, so I can't wait to see what the bakers will come up with this year!  Ms. Nizynski and her husband, Brent, are coming up with fun games with great prizes to play while you are there!  Be at McCracken Middle School from 2 till 4 on Sunday to eat great cookies and help build a chicken farm in Ghana!

Change For Change Walk-a-thon

On June 3, 2014, McCracken students will again walk to raise awareness about children's rights and raise money for A Better Life for Kids.  A.C.T., the organizer of this walk, has challenged each advisory to buy a hen for $50 as part of the Eggs for Kids initiative.  It will be exciting to see how many rise to that challenge.  We will also be walking through Middleton Elementary to collect change and see their work around the theme of empathy this year.  If you would like to donate online,  you can do so at www.abetterlifeforkids.org  If you want your donation to count towards the Aiding Children Together total or if you need to name your hen, let Mrs. Ciok know at jciok@sd735.org

Tune into NPR on May 29th at 12 to hear Mrs. Ciok on Worldview talking about the efforts of A.C.T. and the District 73.5 community.  See the flyer below for more information about all of these exciting events!  2013-2014 has been a great year for A.C.T.!  Thanks to all of the students for their amazing work this year!

5th and 6th Grade Student Leadership Day

On Wednesday, May 7th, six 6th graders and two teachers attended Student Leadership Day at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.  The theme for the day was Emotional Intelligence and how to be your best self.  Dr. Marc Brackett from Yale University spoke to the people in attendance giving great advice on how to help make the school community a better place.  Everyone had a great day and made some new friends along the way!
